Carlsbad TGIF Jazz in the Parks

Since 1986, the City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office has been presenting free jazz concerts in the city's parks during the summer. In 1986, there were four concerts, with about 150 people at each concert. Now each concert attendance reaches approximately 4,000 people. All concerts are from 6pm-8pm every Friday. July 3

Mission Bay - Paradise Point Resort & Spa 

This event is held on July 3rd at Paradise Point.  It is the 9th Annual "All American BBQ and Fireworks Extravaganza," with live entertainment, all-you-can-eat Kansas-Style BBQ, carnival activities and a 30 minute firwork display over Mission Bay. Open to the public. July 3

Independence Day Parade

Join us on Saturday, July 3rd, 2010 for the 17th annual Independence Day Parade as it makes it way north on Coast Highway from Wisconsin Avenue to Civic Center Drive (just past City Hall). Come see floats, bands, walking groups, cool cars and much more. Our theme this year is "68 Years of Military History".The parade starts in front of the 101 Cafe (Coast Highway at Wisconsin Avenue) at 10:00 a.m. and works its way north with the first unit of the parade reaching City Hall around 10:45 a.m. Running time from beginning to end is about two hours. Viewing of the parade is available from the sidewalks along the entire route. Spectators are encouraged to bring folding chairs. The highest concentration of viewers will be on the north end of the route past Seagaze Avenue. parade.msoceanside.com

Summer Fun Camp - Wild Animal Park

Each summer children can choose up to five days of fun from a variety of one-day camp programs at the Wild Animal Park. Each age-appropriate morning program includes an up-close animal encounter, a visit to a special exhibit area, and hands-on activities and games. Many of the classes include an art or conservation project as well. Students can sign up for as many programs as they like. Free Movies in the Park

The movie shown on an inflatable screen is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and the showing will be at San Elijo Hills Park. Pre-show activities start at 6pm and movie starts at dusk. Free to the public. Bring beach chairs or blankets for lawn seating. 760-744-9000 or www.san-marcos.net

 

July 10 – 11

Annual Insect Festival-Encinitas  

This one-of-a-kind event features thousands of fascinating creepy-crawlies including live insects, lizards, snakes, and the famous "Madagascar hissing cockroaches." Children can practice bug collecting, hands-on insect arts and crafts, and even taste cooked mealworm larva (in various flavors such as mesquite, teriyaki, and barbeque!). Entomologists and other bug experts will be available for questions and more than 20 informational booths will teach and entertain children and adults alike. In addition, Dr. Mike Glassey will bring his hawks and owls for close viewing. Sponsored by the County of San Diego Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures, Lloyd Pest Control, and the San Diego Botanic Garden. World Championship Over-The-Line Tournament

Over 50 years of adult sandbox play. Admission is free. You have to be 18+ to play. 9 age divisions. Rugged sand softball play is from 7:30am to dusk. The island is closed to traffic between 10am to 4pm. Food and drink available. No bottles, babies, dogs, birds or Boa Constrictors. July 10, 11, 17 – 7:30am-8pm / July 18 – 7:30am-7pm. Carlsbad Triathlon & Celebration  

1K Swim - 25K Bike - 5K Run. This race is for everybody: from first-timers to the elites, and their friends and family! The race begins with an open-water ocean swim, which is well marked with buoys and colorful high-flying balloons. Followed by a bike course and finishing with a run that takes you along the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline. The roads are wide and completely closed to traffic-very safe! Summer Sunday Concerts by the Sea - Encinitas

Shark Week-Birch Aquarium

Birch Aquarium Green Flash Concert

Del Mar Racing
